“The Pool”

Now that the site is back up I am going to start updating the site with recent projects. “The Pool” is an RTE/Filmbase Funded Short shot back in April. The film tells the story of four kids who break into a pool block at night.
The Pool One

The Director is Thomas Hefferon who also co-wrote the script with Troels Jacob Hundtofte (Danish writer).

The film was shot over four days entirely in a school swimming pool block. The DP was Ruari O Brien.  Cast were Ryan Andrews,Andy Gallagher,Thomas Kelly and Lauren Coe.

Day One was shot almost entirely underwater. This comprised an EX1 in an underwater housing plus a separate bag which held two LED’s to light underwater.  The majority of the Pool floor was lined with a black damp proof membrane weighted with stage weights. Ruari came up with this idea as the Director wanted the water to appear dark and menacing. The material he suggested was a ‘Visqueen’ damp proof membrane and it worked great. We cut the material up to avoid it rising to the surface (another idea from Ruari)  Finally a Jib arm was used with an under-slung head to shoot the actors at the surface of the water.

The rest of the film was shot on Red (4K) and Screen Scene are currently posting the project with Derek Holland editing.

The entire crew were great and Thomas and Ruari did a great job as did the cast under very tough (hot!) conditions.
